Interview
Erin Smythe is a student at UC Davis. I interviewed her. These are some of the questions I asked her.
Question: Why did you become a vet? Answer: I like working with animals and I like working with people and veterinary medicine combines those two things. Question: What kind of vet do you want to be? Answer: Small Animal Veterinarian (so dogs and cats). Question: What are some risks of being a vet? Answer: There's always the risk of getting bit or scratched by an animal who is scared or hurt, but many animals we work with are really friendly and happy to see us. Question: What are three good qualities for a vet? Answer: 1. loves animals 2. can work with different kinds of people 3. loves science Question: What is the best thing about being a vet? Answer: Watching a pet grow from a puppy to an old dog, and being there to help it any time it isn't feeling well. Question: What do you want to specialize in? Answer: I want to do general practice (no specialty), but there are many areas a vet can specialize in: dermatology, surgery, neurology, nutrition, behavior, radiology, and internal medicine. Question: How do you study, and how much time do you spend studying? Answer: I study after class and on the weekends either by myself or with my friends. Usually, I spend about five hours per day studying but it depends on our class schedule. Sometimes it's more if we have a test, sometimes it's less if we don't have much class. Question: What is your favorite animal? Answer: Dogs! Question: What is the hardest thing about being a vet? Answer: Not being to save every animal-either the animals are too sick, or their owners cannot pay for treatment. Question: What is the least best thing about being a vet? Answer: Having to put animals to sleep. |
